Hypnosis FAQ

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a focused state of awareness. In this state, the body is fully relaxed, while the mind remains awake. The hypnotherapist can access your subconscious mind during this state. Here, positive changes and transformations can begin through the use of hypnotic suggestions.

Hypnosis is a natural state that we all experience throughout the day. For example, have you ever missed your exit while driving on the freeway? Or, been so engrossed in a movie that you forgot you were in a room full of strangers? Perhaps you’ve zoned out and daydreamed while someone was talking to you. All of these are examples of being in a state of hypnosis.

What Hypnosis is NOT

When most people hear the word “hypnosis,” they often think of swinging watches and hypnotists commanding someone to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken. This type of hypnosis is mainly for entertainment purposes, commonly seen on the stages of Las Vegas shows.

During clinical hypnotherapy, you are fully alert and in control of your mind and body. You can hear, speak, and move freely while in a relaxed state. You will never be pressured to disclose secrets or do anything against your will. Hypnotherapy is used solely for healing purposes.

Does Hypnotherapy Really Work?

In recent years, hypnosis and hypnotherapy have become accepted medical treatments for a wide variety of issues and conditions. Clinical studies conducted by researchers and professors at universities like Stanford, Harvard, and Penn State have found that hypnosis alters the brain and can be used for various conditions.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

When you are in a hypnotic state, your conscious mind is relaxed, allowing the hypnotherapist to work directly with your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind holds all of our programming, similar to a computer. You may consciously want to make a change and be determined to do so, but if your subconscious programming is set to keep you in your current behavior, it will be difficult to make lasting changes. Hypnotherapy can help change this programming, leading to changes in behavior.

What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?

Hypnosis induces a comfortable, peaceful, and pleasant feeling. Your body relaxes deeply while your mind remains alert. After a session of hypnotherapy, you will experience a sense of rejuvenation and feel refreshed.

Will I Lose Control of Myself?

Absolutely not! Hypnotherapy is a way to give you more control, not less. You cannot be hypnotized against your will, and you cannot be made to do something that goes against your morals or reveal information you do not want to share.

Can I Get Stuck in Hypnosis?

No, you can come out of hypnosis whenever you wish. You cannot get “stuck” in hypnosis, just like you can’t get “stuck” awake or “stuck” asleep. Hypnotherapists always end their clients’ trances for practical reasons, but if they didn’t, clients would naturally either return to full alertness or fall asleep.

What Happens in the First Hypnotherapy Session?
The first session is the longest one at 70-90 minutes and consists of the following 4 main components:

  1. In-depth consultation is necessary to understand the specific challenges you are currently facing, any known blocks, and your desired outcome from our hypnotherapy sessions together.
  2. During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will guide you into a state of deep relaxation and focused attention. This allows your subconscious mind to become more receptive to positive suggestions. You may experience a sense of calmness and tranquility during the session. Your mind may feel clear and focused, allowing you to explore your thoughts and emotions more easily. Overall, the experience of hypnosis is unique to each individual, but most people report feeling relaxed, peaceful, and in control during the session.
  3. Suggestibility Testing – To create significant and powerful changes in mental programming, it is crucial to understand how you receive suggestions and information. This testing helps us determine the most effective hypnotic suggestions for making positive changes in your subconscious mind.
  4. The final part of the first session involves the hypnotherapy process, during which your subconscious programming will start to shift.
